How to Properly Utilize a Forklift
Forklifts are material handling machines that can transport cargo. Most commonly, these machines are utilized in certain industries to move heavy supplies in a wide variety of settings such as airports, supply companies and warehouses. Anyone operating a lift truck must be trained to use the equipment cautiously. It is vital to be completely aware of one's environment when driving a forklift. Forklifts are designed to run on gasoline, propane, diesel or batteries. Typical lift trucks are common in various commercial applications and are truly not hard to operate with proper training. The following steps outline the basics of operating a forklift:

1 Familiarize yourself with the levers which would be used to maneuver the load and to move the item from one place to another. The levers could be found to the steering wheel's right side.
2 The first lever could move the forks up and down. Pulling the lever towards you moves the tines up, and pushing the lever away from your body moves them down. Blades should be kept near the ground except when unloading or loading.
3 The two other levers work to control the forks movement left and right and to control the tines tilt. The forks are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is better that you practice prior to picking up a load. Using the second lever, pull it towards your body to tilt the tines back, and push it away from your body to tilt the blades forward.
4 Lever number 4 is utilized to control the side to side movement of the forks from right to left. Just move the lever in the direction of where you want the forks to move: right to move the forks right and left to move the blades left.
5 Always approach a cargo cautiously. Lower the tines and cautiously drive forward until the tines slide under the cargo. After that lift the tines a few centimeters by pulling the lever towards your body. If the cargo is top-heavy, you should tilt the forks backwards a little for balance.
6 Warn other individuals and personnel when the forklift is approaching by honking and take safety precautions by taking corners slowly and honking. Approach the place where you will be working carefully. Manipulate the levers to maneuver the cargo to where it is going. When the cargo is positioned, reverse gears and cautiously back away.
7 Forklifts stop pretty much the same way as other vehicles. The brake is located to the left side of the accelerator. Once stopped, shift the gear into "park."
